Car vs. Bridge

The call came about 3:30am of a car hitting the bridge.  There were early reports that the driver was either ejected or had ran from the scene.  Units arrived, lights set up, and personnel attempted to locate the driver.  After about 1/2 hour, the people in the vehicle admitted there was not a third person and that one of them had been driving.  One person seemed to have severe injuries and the passenger refused medical treatment for a injured shoulder.  Troutman Fire & Rescue, Iredell County EMS, Iredell County Sheriff Dept, and NC State Police were on scene.


Command getting units on scene for search.


Looking for signs in the car - the brake had been set.


Vehicle did not have a lot of damage.


Impact point on rear of car.


Looking over the edge of the bridge.


The opposite side of the bridge was checked.


The bridge impact point - the guard rail was knocked loose.


The search was called off.


Brake on, and seats were laid way back.


Skid marks show attempt at stopping before hitting the bridge.


Units wait for SHP to arrive
