Vehicle over Embankment
Ejection with Fatality
I77 NB/40mm
A SUV hit the guard rail and the vehicle went up on top of the guard rail sliding until it went down the embankment, ejecting one passenger who landed up underneath the vehicle. There were either 7 or 8 persons in the vehicle, and the victim was the only one not wearing a seatbelt. The rest of the passengers were transported to the hospital to be checked out for minor injuries. The interstate was shut down for nearly 3 1/2 hours while getting patient out from underneath the vehicle, and then to get the vehicle pulled back up to the roadway. Rescue workers used jacks, air bags, and cribbing to get the patient out from underneath the vehicle. Units came from Troutman Fire & Rescue, Shepherds Fire & Rescue, Mooresville Rescue, Mooresville Fire Dept, NC SHP and Empire Wrecker Service. The wrecker was used to stabilize the vehicle.
I have a set of fireman's gloves that were left on the scene if anyone is missing them. Shoot me an email and I will get them back to you.
