This is in the Riverwalk Community on the Catawba River near
the Alexander and Iredell County Line. The community does not have a public
water supply so a water supply had to be established. The hazardous weather on
January 30, 2010 caused responding units to be struck on the ice and snow
covered hills in the private gated community. Several pieces of apparatus slid
into the side ditches and had to be towed before they could be placed into
service. Firefighters put up a valiant fight, but Mother Nature seems to always
win.
The house was still under construction and the estimated loss is over 1 million
dollars. The fire is still under investigation.
The responding departments were; Stony Point, West Iredell and Monticello Fire
Departments.
